MECS sees its primary task as unfolding God’s world with children in the educational domain (families and church also do this but in other domains of life). As students understand themselves, their world, and have a healthy view of the calling God has for them, they are well equipped and positioned to engage as active participants in society and as disciples of the Lord.
Such a holistic understanding stands in stark contrast to the broad Australian view that schools exist for the purpose of providing students with basic skills and the where-with-all to get a good job at the end of the process. One is a view of God’s kingdom and the call to serve, the other, the material world in which one needs to work. Two very different views about education.
What was the IT issue your business was facing?
MECS was looking to implement a private link between their Mount Evelyn and Lilydale campuses, utilising existing hardware. There was also a need to setup a new Optus internet connection at their Mount Evelyn campus also utilising the existing hardware.
What challenges did this issue present for your business?
MECS needed a 3rd party to come in and work with their existing vendors to deliver results on the issues listed above. MECS were finding it difficult to “speak the vendor language” and needed professional assistance to resolve the issues.
MECS were also utilising a public network setup instead of a private network which was creating both privacy and security issues. Due to a lack of internal IT resources, the school were having trouble delivering results in regards to the issues they were experiencing.
What were your business objectives and expected outcomes in regards to resolving this issue?
MECS were looking to direct all their internet traffic through the new Optus connection to increase speed and efficiency. Both the Mount Evelyn and Lilydale campuses were looking to utilise the new private network as opposed to the less secure public network.
Why did you choose to work with Interscale?
MECS choose to work with Interscale due to their proven project management skills. Interscale were able to prove that they had had great success and experience with clients whom have had similar issues and installations.
What solution/s did Interscale suggest you implement as a business to resolve your issue?
Interscale suggested that MECS utilise their expertise as project managers to work with both the internet service provider and vendor to install the new internet connection and network framework.
Interscale also suggested that MECS move their network from a public connection to a private connection to facilitate both better security, increased performance but also efficiency.
How did Interscale work with you to come up with the suggested solution/s?
Interscale were able to show MECS best practice for secure network setup and traffic flow. They were also able to project manage the changes in stages in order for MECS to have minimal downtime and maintain efficiency.
How did Interscale go about working with you to implement the suggested solution/s?
Interscale were able to effectively communicate with MECS staff around how each change would be implemented and what the expected outcome would be. Most importantly, Interscale were able to deliver the outcomes that MECS were expecting both within budget and timeframe.
What was the timeframe for the solution/s implementation?
The timeframe for full delivery was 2–3 weeks.
What results did your business see from the solution/s Interscale implemented?
The new internet connection has more bandwidth and performs faster which was badly needed for the school.
The new private Mount Evelyn–Lilydale network has allowed MECS users both better privacy and security.
Were your expected objectives/outcomes met through the implementation of the solution/s? ie: operational or financial benefits, productivity etc.
MECS were extremely happy with the outcomes delivered by Interscale. Internet speed has allowed for greater efficiency and increased productivity and the new private network has given the school a greater sense of security.
Were there any issues during the implementation process? If yes, how did Interscale address these issues?
During the implementation phase, there were disputes between the router vendor and the internet service provider as each blamed the other for the problems that were being experienced. Interscale managed both providers in order to mediate and then resolve the issues.
Would your business recommend Interscale to other businesses? If yes, what would you tell these businesses specifically about working with Interscale?
MECS would absolutely recommend Interscale to other businesses and or schools. Interscale worked hard to gain a deep understanding of the issues MECS were facing and then matching an appropriate solution.
Interscale showed that they not only had experience in project management, but were able to deliver the results desired by MECS. Interscale proved to be both trustworthy and able to meet expectations.
