Frequently Ask Question

What is a Revit template?

A Revit template is a preconfigured project file that establishes the standards, settings, views, schedules, annotations, and workflows used across Revit projects. It provides a consistent starting point for project teams and helps ensure modelling and documentation standards are applied from the beginning of a project.

What is the difference between Revit Template and family?

A Revit project template (.rte) defines your project’s setup — including views, sheets, title blocks, annotation styles, and system families — so every new project starts with consistent standards and settings.

A Revit family (.rfa) is a predefined component that can represent model elements (like doors or furniture), annotation symbols, or detail items. Families make it easier to place, manage, and reuse standardised content across projects.

Why do architecture and engineering firms use Revit templates?

Revit templates create a standardised project environment that teams can use across multiple projects. By defining modelling standards, documentation settings, and project structures upfront, firms can maintain greater consistency between teams and reduce time spent configuring new projects.

What does a Revit template typically include?

A Revit template can include project parameters, view templates, sheet standards, schedules, annotation styles, object styles, browser organisation settings, worksets, and documentation requirements. These elements create a structured framework that guides project delivery and supports consistent BIM workflows.

How do Revit templates improve BIM consistency across projects?

Revit templates establish common modelling and documentation standards before project work begins. Teams can use the same project structures, naming conventions, and documentation settings across multiple projects. This helps maintain consistency and improves collaboration between disciplines and project teams.

Can Revit templates be standardised across multiple offices and project teams?

Large architecture and engineering firms often require consistent BIM standards across different offices and disciplines. A standardised Revit template provides a shared project foundation that teams can use regardless of location. This helps maintain consistency across projects while supporting organisational growth.

How does Interscale help firms develop Revit templates for Australian projects?

Interscale helps Australian AEC firms develop and optimise Revit templates that align with organisational standards, BIM workflows, and project delivery requirements. The focus is on creating structured project environments that improve consistency, support collaboration, and establish a scalable foundation for BIM operations.

Are these Revit Templates and Families compatible with my version of Revit?

Yes. All Interscale Revit Templates and Families are compatible with the latest versions of Autodesk Revit. If you’re using an older version, our support team can guide you on compatibility and migration steps.

How to load these templates and families in Revit?

Loading is quick and simple. Every subscription includes a guided onboarding session to help you install and link the templates properly. If needed, our team can assist through full setup support — ensuring your Revit environment is ready to go.

Can I customise the templates or families after purchase?

Absolutely. You can modify the Revit Templates and Families to match your company standards or project requirements.
If you need something unique, we also offer Revit Family Creation Services — custom-built families designed specifically for your workflows, ensuring accuracy and consistency across projects.

Do you offer ongoing support if I have questions?

Yes, ongoing support is provided through email, Discord, and optional dedicated consultation hours.

Does it work with Revit LT?

What Revit LT can’t access:

1. Global Parameters:
The North Arrow Symbol cannot be automatically adjusted for every Titleblock. You can get around this with Shared/Project Parameters though, just more manual work

2. View Filters:
We have View Filters applied for Interscale Pro and Interscale Elite. Revit LT cannot use View Filters, so they won’t be able to be adjusted in the views, so the visual style may not work for Company Standards and cannot be adjusted.

3. APIs and Automation:
Revit LT cannot use Dynamo or other plug-ins

Benefits of Using an Australian-Specific Revit Template

Investing in an Australian-specific Revit Template delivers efficiency, quality, and compliance. Compliance comes first: AS 1100 conventions, ISO 19650 requirements, Line Weights, Hatch Patterns, and Text Heights are built in. New Sheets are review-ready rather than needing extensive mark-ups. Pre-set View Templates, Title Blocks, and Schedules cut hours from early project stages, allowing designers to focus on Architecture and Engineering rather than adjusting Units and Phases.
