Autodesk Forma vs Autodesk Construction Cloud: What Changed?

Written by
autodesk construction cloud vs autodesk forma

Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) is now part of Autodesk Forma, following Autodesk’s March 24, 2026 platform update. However, this does not mean existing ACC projects need to be migrated.

The change primarily brings ACC capabilities under the broader Autodesk Forma industry cloud, with several products receiving new names. Existing project data, workflows, access, APIs, and integrations remain in place.

So, what actually changed?

This guide explains what happened to Autodesk Construction Cloud, how its products now fit within Forma, what happened to the CDE, and what AEC firms should check before changing their subscriptions or workflows.

Is Autodesk Construction Cloud Now Autodesk Forma?

Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) is now part of the Autodesk Forma industry cloud. Autodesk describes the change as a brand and platform evolution rather than a platform replacement.

For existing ACC customers, the important point is that nothing needs to be migrated.

Projects, data, permissions, workflows, APIs, integrations, and licensing remain in place.

The main change is that ACC products now appear under new Forma names across Autodesk Account, contracts, and product experiences.

For example, Autodesk Docs is now Forma Data Management, BIM Collaborate Pro is Forma Design Collaboration, and Autodesk Build is Forma Build.

What Is Autodesk Forma?

Autodesk Forma is Autodesk’s AI-native industry cloud for architecture, engineering, construction, and operations (AECO).

It is designed to connect people, project data, and workflows across the built-environment lifecycle, from planning and design through construction and operations.

Following the March 2026 update, Autodesk Construction Cloud capabilities are now part of this broader Forma industry cloud.

This brings construction workflows together with Autodesk’s wider design and planning capabilities rather than requiring ACC customers to move to a separate platform.

Within Forma, you’ll encounter different products and offerings for specific workflows. For example:

  • Forma Site Design: early-stage site planning and design
  • Forma Data Management: common data environment and project information management
  • Forma Design Collaboration: multidisciplinary design collaboration and coordination
  • Forma Build: construction and field management
  • Forma Takeoff: 2D and 3D quantity takeoff
  • Forma Estimate: construction estimating

This means “Forma” does not necessarily refer to one individual application. It can refer to the broader industry cloud, while specific Forma products provide the tools for particular workflows.

What Was Autodesk Construction Cloud?

Autodesk Construction Cloud was Autodesk’s platform for construction collaboration and delivery.

Launched in 2019, it brought BIM collaboration and document control together with project collaboration and field management.

Docs and BIM Collaborate Pro supported collaboration, with Build and Takeoff covering other delivery work.

Teams often used “ACC” as shorthand for the whole environment, so the term still appears in older project manuals and contracts.

Autodesk Forma vs Construction Cloud: What’s Actually Different?

Autodesk Forma and ACC differ mainly in scope:

  • Autodesk Construction Cloud focuses on construction delivery.
  • Autodesk Forma keeps those ACC capabilities within a wider AEC platform that also covers planning, design, and operations

That change reaches beyond the platform label. It affects product names, CDE terminology, and the way existing projects appear in Autodesk Account as we can see in table:

Product identityForma names across design and construction productsACC names across construction products
Effect on current usersExisting data and workflows continue under Forma namesProject setup used ACC names

With those differences, we usually saw:

  • Existing users mainly need to match the old names to their current entitlements.
  • New buyers should start with the workflow they need to deliver, then choose the product or bundle that supports it.

What Happened to Autodesk Construction Cloud Products?

Autodesk Construction Cloud products kept their main jobs and moved to Forma names and bundles.

A former ACC entitlement may therefore appear under a different Forma name on a renewal quote:

You may now see these names in product screens, contracts, Autodesk Account, and licensing records. A renewal quote can also mix old and new terms.

Keep the map beside your license register so procurement, BIM, and project teams can spot a renamed entitlement before someone buys it again.

Autodesk Forma for Different AEC Workflows

Autodesk Forma supports work from early site and concept design through detailed BIM, document management, preconstruction, and construction delivery.

Each stage hands information to the next team, which is why product access changes as the project progresses. Let’s break it up.

Feasibility and Concept Design

Forma Site Design and Forma Building Design support early site studies, option testing, and schematic design before detailed authoring begins.

Decisions made at this stage inform client approvals and planning work. So document the assumptions that progress and nominate someone to review them.

Any item that needs further development in BIM can then be flagged before the detailed-design team starts from an agreed brief.

Detailed Design and BIM Collaboration

Detailed design and BIM collaboration centre on Autodesk Revit, which teams use for model authoring, documentation, and coordination around a shared model.

Forma Design Collaboration manages exchanges between disciplines.

Agree what is shared, who can access it, and who signs off each review, so design intent remains connected to the model, and teams avoid manual rework.

Document Management and Project Collaboration

Document management and project collaboration sit in Forma Data Management, where AutoCAD and Revit outputs can form part of the governed project record.

The project information-management plan should set the rules for permissions, reviews, issues, and transmittals.

With those controls maintained, the project record can remain in its existing CDE while the platform name changes.

Preconstruction and Construction Delivery

Forma Takeoff and Forma Estimate support preconstruction, while Forma Build supports project and field delivery.

Estimators and project managers can work from the same project information used by site teams as the project moves into delivery.

Assign access by role, so each person has the products they need without adding unnecessary entitlements.

Do Construction Cloud Users Need to Change Platforms?

Construction Cloud users do not need to move a live project because Autodesk has changed product names.

Your project can remain in its existing ACC environment, including the foundations your team relies on each day:

  • Project data, files, permissions, and folder structures;
  • licenses, subscriptions, and user logins; and
  • APIs, automations, and integrations.

Since those foundations stay in place, focus first on the administrative work around them.

Update your product register, support notes, onboarding material, and renewal comparison so your team can trace the old and new names.

Move the CDE only when a delivery requirement calls for it. Give the move an owner, test it with the people who use it, and follow a planned cutover.

The Future of Autodesk Forma

The ACC transition is only part of Autodesk’s broader direction for Forma. Autodesk is increasingly connecting design, analysis, collaboration, and construction workflows through the Forma industry cloud.

Some of the recent developments point to where the platform is heading:

  • Revit + Forma integration: Revit 2027 introduced Forma Connected Client capabilities, connecting Revit projects with Forma workflows and project context.
  • More analysis inside Revit: Recent Revit 2027 updates introduced Forma capabilities such as Microclimate Analysis and Forma Roads as Tech Previews.
  • Connected AEC workflows: Forma is being developed to connect planning, design, collaboration, construction, and analysis rather than treating them as separate workflows.
  • Revit is still central: This does not mean Forma is replacing Revit. Revit remains the main environment for detailed BIM authoring and documentation, while Forma is expanding around it with earlier-stage exploration, analysis, and connected workflows.
  • The direction is still evolving: Some of the newest Revit–Forma capabilities remain in Tech Preview, so firms should distinguish between available features and Autodesk’s longer-term product direction.

What Should AEC Firms Check Before Adopting Autodesk Forma?

Before adopting or expanding Autodesk Forma, check what you already own and which workflow you actually need. A useful review starts with access and roles.

Once those are mapped, you can protect the live project and test the hand-off you want to improve:

  • Confirm current entitlements: Export products and assigned users from Autodesk Account. Add the contract terms and renewal dates. A new Forma label may already refer to access the firm owns.
  • Translate the old names: Match every ACC product to its current Forma name before comparing quotes. If the mapping is missing, the same capability can appear twice in a renewal review.
  • Map roles to deliverables: Identify who authors, reviews, or approves information. Then note who estimates, administers the CDE, or works in the field. Base access on delivery responsibility as well as job title.
  • Protect live-project dependencies: Record the hub, permissions, and folder structure. Add the integrations, automations, and external members. A poorly timed move can disrupt consultant access or delay an issue needed for a client, tender, or site decision.
  • Set the CDE rules: Decide where work in progress and shared information belong. Do the same for published deliverables and records. Consistent states make it easier to prove which revision was issued during a client or tender review.
  • Pilot one hand-off: For design, test concept to Revit or model exchange. For delivery, test drawing publication or takeoff. Field issue management is another option. Expand access only if the pilot reduces duplicate work, shortens review time, or improves traceability.

You should finish with two decisions: who needs each license and which workflow to pilot or expand?
